AUGUST – SEPTEMBER 2022 – Sermon Series

We will be reading from the book Ecclesiastes.  The theme of this book is given in 1:1-3, and might be expressed, “Is life really worth living?” Solomon looks at life with its seeming contradictions and mysteries, and he wonders if the “endless toil” of existence is worth it. People toil all their lives, then die, and somebody less worthy inherits their wealth and wastes it. Solomon comes to the conclusion that the best thing to do is to enjoy the blessings of God today, fear God, and keep His Word. Of course, with the added light of the New Testament we know that “our labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58).  Through this series we will learn how to live a meaningful life.

2022 is New Hope’s “Year in the Word”,

which means we are taking a deep dive into specific books of the Bible on Sunday mornings throughout the year.  We know that the Bible can be overwhelming to read and understand with 66 individual books broken into two sections, Old and New Testaments.  We want to help you understand the overarching story of God’s redemption as we study different books from different part of the Bible.

On this page you will find resources that will help you each week in you personal Bible reading and prayer times with God.

August – September 2022

Jesus had a lot going on during his time in ministry… preaching, teaching, healing, and traveling.  But there was a habit that he had in his life that we need to use as a model for our life:

Luke 5:16 – But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

If Jesus needed to spend that time with his Heavenly Father, we certainly need it too!  Take 10-20min each day with a journal, your Bible and a prayer list.  Put it on the calendar and make it a priority.

S.O.A.P. is a simple method for reading and applying God’s word to our lives.  It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer and involves four simple steps:

  1. Scripture – Read a short Bible passage out loud and/or write it out. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you as you read and look for any specific words or phrases that stand out and write them down.
  2. Observation – What do you notice about the verses? What do you think the main message is? What verses, words or ideas jump out to you?
  3. Application – Ask God how he wants you to apply the verse to your own life.  What do you need to do today because of the passage?  How do you need to think differently?
  4. Prayer – Have a list of things you’re asking God to do for you or others.  Start by thanking God for things then move to requests.

You can choose your own scripture or reading plan or use the one provided for this Series.
